MU.SA - Museu das Artes de Sintra

At the heart of MU.SA lies the goal of promoting the enjoyment and understanding of contemporary art and culture while strengthening the bonds with the local community. Through its impressive collection of artworks and a wide range of exhibitions, the museum caters to diverse audiences, showcasing pieces from the Municipal Art Collection, thematic exhibitions by renowned and emerging artists, as well as collaborations with other Portuguese cultural institutions.

One of the notable spaces within MU.SA is the Espaço Pedro Cabrita Reis, named after the acclaimed contemporary artist Pedro Cabrita Reis. This space is dedicated to the permanent display of his masterpiece, "Uma Nuvem Negra" (A Black Cloud). The artwork, a monumental triptych measuring 351 x 566 cm, captures the metamorphic atmosphere of Sintra, embodying the essence of the place, its landscape, and climate. Alongside "Uma Nuvem Negra", the Espaço Pedro Cabrita Reis also features two additional works donated by the artist to the Sintra City Council, creating a cohesive and impactful ambiance.

The Espaço Pedro Cabrita Reis serves as a catalyst for a dynamic and enticing program focused on engaging with the artwork. This program is structured around two pillars: "Habitar o Espaço" (Inhabiting the Space), which explores the influence of the physical space on the artwork and vice versa, fostering inclusive and comprehensive initiatives; and "Habitar a Obra" (Inhabiting the Artwork), which encourages dialogue and juxtaposition between the Municipal Art Collection and the resident artwork. To facilitate this exchange, various personalities from the artistic and cultural sphere will be invited to select works from the collection that engage, challenge, and resonate with the resident artwork.

The public inauguration of the Espaço Pedro Cabrita Reis promises an immersive exhibition experience, bringing together the awe-inspiring landscapes of Pedro Cabrita Reis with the delicate and intricate strokes of Alfredo Keil and João Cristino da Silva. Through their works, united by the natural and human essence of Sintra, visitors are transported on a visual journey of exploration and contemplation.
