With origins dating back to the mid-18th century, Jardim de São Pedro de Alcântara holds a significant place in Lisbon's heritage. It was during this time that King John (João) I of Portugal ordered the construction of a sturdy wall on the western slope of Vale Verde, known today as Avenida da Liberdade, to support the two terraces that divided the former Praça de São Pedro de Alcantâra, later transformed into this beautiful garden.
